Who Needs Voter ID?

Primary tabs

Impact

Impact:
This debate is coming up again. Should non-citizens be allowed to vote? Opponents say the cost of a government issued photo ID is too high for the elderly and the poor while common sense folks think we all have ID anyway. Is this a case of fraud versus voter suppression? What do we tell our Congressman?

Debate Summary

Present your argument:

Some states like Texas and New Hampshire want to make sure citizens can vote. They understand the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and are complying with the law. But the Justice Dept. blocked Texas. It’s weird that you need ID to do anything else but if you go to a polling booth, you just have to give a name and collect a ballot without showing any ID.

VOTER ID laws are essentially a poll tax. It is a dangerous practice to put up more barriers to access to democracy.
